Consider what your crying baby might be thinking:

- I am hungry. Most newborns eat every couple of hrs round-the-clock. Crying is really a late manifestation of hunger. Search for early indications of hunger, for example hands to mouth movements and lip smacking.
- I wish to suck on something. For a lot of babies, sucking is really a comforting activity. In case your baby is not hungry, provide a pacifier or strengthen your baby look for a thumb or finger.
- I am lonely. Comfortably hold your child for your chest. Gentle pats around the back might soothe a crying baby, too.
- I am tired. Tired babies are frequently picky — as well as your baby may need more sleep than you believe. Newborns frequently sleep as much as 16 hrs each day or sometimes more.
- I am wet. A wet or soiled diaper can trigger tears. Look at your baby’s diaper frequently to make certain it’s dry and clean.
- I wish to move. A rocking session or walk can soothe a crying baby. Or try placing your child within an infant swing or taking a vehicle ride.
- I’d prefer to be bundled. Some babies feel quite secure when swaddled.
- I am cold or hot. Add or remove a layer of clothing when needed.
An excessive amount of noise, movement or visual stimulation may also drive your child to weep. Proceed to a calmer atmosphere or put your baby within the crib. White-colored noise — like a recording of sea waves or even the monotonous seem of the electric fan — may help your crying baby relax.
