Pregnancy lasts about 40 days, counting from the very first day of the last normal period. The days are categorized into three trimesters.(TREYE-mess-turs) Discover what is happening with both you and your baby during these three stages.
First trimester (week 1–week 12)
Throughout the first trimester the body undergoes many changes. Hormonal changes affect nearly every organ system within your body. These changes can trigger signs and symptoms even just in the initial days of being pregnant. Your period stopping is really a obvious sign that you’re pregnant. Other changes can include:
- Extreme tiredness
- Tender, inflamed breasts. Your nipples may also stand out.
- Upset stomach without or with tossing up (morning sickness)
- Cravings or distaste for several foods
- Moodiness
- Constipation (trouble getting bowel motions)
- Have to pass urine more frequently
- Headache
- Acid reflux
- Putting on weight or loss
As the body changes, you might have to make changes to your health, for example going to sleep earlier or eating frequent, small meals. Fortunately, many of these discomforts goes away as the pregnancy progresses. And ladies may not feel any discomfort whatsoever! If you’ve been pregnant before, you may feel differently now. Just like each lady differs, same with each pregnancy.
Second trimester (week 13–week 28)
Nearly all women discover the second trimester of being pregnant simpler compared to first. But it’s just like vital that you stay accustomed to your pregnancy over these several weeks.
You may observe that signs and symptoms like nausea and fatigue ‘re going away. But other new, more noticeable changes for your body are actually happening. Your abdomen will expand because the baby keeps growing. And before trimester has ended, you’ll feel your child starting to move!
As the body changes to create room for the growing baby, you might have:
- Body aches, for example back, abdomen, groin, or leg discomfort
- Stretchmarks in your abdomen, breasts, thighs, or bottom
- Darkening of your skin around your nipples
- A line onto the skin running from navel to genital hairline
- Patches of more dark skin, usually within the cheekbones, brow, nose, or upper lip. Patches frequently match on sides from the face. This really is sometimes known as the mask of being pregnant.
- Numb or tingling hands, known as carpal tunnel
- Itching around the abdomen, palms, and soles from the ft. (Call your physician for those who have nausea, appetite loss, vomiting, jaundice or fatigue coupled with itching. These may be indications of a significant liver problem.)
- Swelling from the ankles, fingers, and face. (If you see any sudden or extreme swelling or you gain lots of weight really rapidly, call your physician immediately. This may be an indication of preeclampsia.)
Third trimester (week 29–week 40)
You are in your home stretch! A few of the same discomforts you’d inside your second trimester continues. Plus, a lot of women find breathing difficult and see they must see the restroom much more frequently. It is because the infant gets bigger which is putting more pressure in your organs. Don’t be concerned, your child is okay which problems will lessen when you give birth.
Newer and more effective body changes you may notice within the third trimester include:
- Difficulty breathing
- Acid reflux
- Swelling from the ankles, fingers, and face. (If you see any sudden or extreme swelling or you gain lots of weight really rapidly, call your physician immediately. This may be an indication of preeclampsia.)
- Hemorrhoids
- Tender breasts, which might leak a watery pre-milk known as colostrum (kuh-LOSS-struhm)
- Your navel may stand out
- Sleep problems
- The infant “shedding”, or moving reduced your abdomen
- Contractions, which may be an indication of real or false labor
While you near your deadline, your cervix becomes thinner and softer (known as effacing). This can be a normal, natural procedure that helps the birth canal (vagina) to spread out throughout the birthing process. Your physician will look at your progress having a vaginal exam while you near your deadline. Get excited — the ultimate countdown has started!
